IT Infrastructure on the Cloud?

Data forms the most crucial element of all datacenters, but the main challenge lies in not collecting storing and processing data but about how can the right information be exploited for the right usages. CIOs are waking up to the fact that data lurking in their everyday work hours have the potential to fundamentally change the way the organization operates.

But today’s infrastructures are all about exploiting the ability to turn data into good business value. Frequent questions that arise are usually regarding the capabilities of the cloud to control data silos, policies regarding the moral and ethical usage of the available data and security concerns over its exposure to the cloud. However the strategy lies in planning ahead and understanding the Volume Velocity and veracity of the growth of data within the organization. Hence IT heads need to move from a tactical approach to a long term strategic approach to properly gain the right insights.

Once there is a clear approach in place, it is imperative to build a good infrastructure that can support and identify the changes required to make the best use of the data structures. The degree of cloud involvement, understanding where do workloads and datasets belong, what percentage of your IT footprint should cloud represent? How are the processes of data moving in and out of the cloud going to be managed are some of the gnarling questions to be addressed.
However on the contrary, some IT heads will see a move to third party vendors to ease out on placing pressure on current IT budgets, in such a scenario it is of importance to question how close is the vendors datacenter to the cloud, the recovery capabilities and the security that the cloud platform provides.

Organizations also realize that there needs to be a closer observation of which work processes are best suited for the cloud. Although many tech heads contemplate on the idea of IT as a third party service purchase, still like the idea of buying their IT as a service, the question still remains whether it needs to be accessed via the cloud or not.
