By

Sandvik Mining supplies a comprehensive range of equipment, tools, services and solutions that help the global mining industry boost efficiency, productivity and safety with zero harm to the environment.

India is one the key focus markets for Sandvik. The country is also endowed with one of the world’s richest deposits of coal, iron ore, bauxite and zinc. As a global leader with best-in-class technologies, it is therefore obvious that Sandvik brings its best offering for the Indian market. Miners in India are also steadily embracing the cutting-edge solutions from Sandvik.

For example, the largest underground metal mine in India has deployed a sizeable fleet of Sandvik underground equipment including 50 and 60 tonne underground trucks, 17 tonne underground load and haul equipment, twin boom jumbo drills, bolters, surface drills and crushing units .

These equipment operate non-stop, complemented strongly by the onsite Sandvik service team who ensure efficiency through optimal utilization of the machines, thereby increasing productivity. Statistics indicate that in the year 2015, the mine recorded a 64 percent increase in production over 2014, at the same time being able to maintain a sharp focus on safety and the environment.

World's Leading cutting edge Technology and Engineering Group
Headquartered in Sweden, Sandvik is a global engineering Group with more than 47,000 employees and a strong commitment to enhancing customer productivity, profitability and safety. The Company’s operations are based on unique expertise in materials technology, extensive knowledge about industrial processes and close customer cooperation. These include tools and tooling systems for metal cutting as well as components in cemented carbide and other hard materials; equipment and tools for the mining and construction industries; products in advanced stainless steels, special alloys and titanium as well as metallic and ceramic resistance materials.

Sandvik in India
The 152-year-old Company has an illustrious history in India, with setting up operations in the country in 1960 and becoming one of the first Swedish companies to establish a subsidiary with a manufacturing unit in the country. Today, Sandvik has a pan-India footprint with five manufacturing units in India located at Pune (Cemented Carbide & HSS Tools, Rock Tools, Solid Carbide Tools, Rock Processing Equipment, Design Centre for Material Handling), Mehsana (Stainless Steel Extruded Tubes), Hosur (Wire & Heating Technology), Hyderabad (Rock Tools) and Chiplun (Carbide Recycling Centre). We complement the Make in India campaign with our experience of doing business in India for over 50 years.

In addition to these, the Company has set up Sales and Service network in strategic clusters which allow a closer interaction with customers.

“In India, Sandvik currently provides specialized solutions for the oil and gas sector. CNG platforms and city gas projects, infrastructure (roads, highways, railways amongst others) and mining sectors, automotive industry, and the aerospace industry”, says Parag Satpute, Managing Director, Sandvik Asia Private Limited.

“Sandvik globally has a successful business track record of more than 150 years. Sandvik’s core value guides the entire organization to be focused on the needs of our customers, to create value by providing innovative solutions and we are passionate about it,” says Subhasis Das VP Mining, India.

Explaining the manner in which the team’s unstinted efforts help the Company in amplifying this commitment, he said that the Mining team in India provides round-the-clock service support at all the major sites by deploying a team of skilled on-site service engineers. “Moreover, we offer structured preventive, scheduled as well as breakdown maintenance programs designed in coordination with our international service experts and our customers to increase equipment availability. We invest in training of our people so that they can deliver world-class services and create value for our end customers,” he added.

Sandvik leverages a robust parts distribution network and an in-house team of planners, to support customers with parts planning and inventory.

Similarly, Sandvik’s Crushing and Screening equipment play a key role across the country’s iron ore, coal and zinc mines. “In Joda & Barbil we have supplied crushers to all the leading steel companies who are now extremely satisfied with our product performance and service support”, adds Subhasis. Consonantly, Sandvik was the first to provide the gyratory crusher to a leading steel company in the nation. The solution delivered significant advantages such as minimum maintenance and smoother operations that helped the client to cut short the total cost of production quite significantly. A notable feature of the company’s crushers is ASRi, Sandvik’s automatic setting regulation system that provides an excellent overview of operations at a glance thus catalyzing an early action to prevent damage to the crusher thereby maximizing uptime.

Deploying commendable solutions that aid highway construction projects like the Golden Quadrilateral and Delhi – Gurgaon expressway, Sandvik’s tunneling jumbos have been operating in large rail-road projects, strategic oil storage caverns and classified military installations across India. Sandvik is proud of being a key supplier inconstruction of roads along the borders of Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Burma.

Serving to Create Value
Buoyed by a strong presence in the underground metal mining, Sandvik is now focusing on underground coal mining, an area under immense focus and attention in India. As a mean to ensure optimum performance over the life of the equipment, the company realized the need for establishing a refurbishment facility that would effectively cater to mid- life overhauling of all critical components and select equipment. The facility boasts of a state-of-the-art refurbishment infrastructure that comprises of highly sophisticated tools, stringent quality standards for maintenance & testing that are in line with Sandvik’s global benchmarks.

“We strongly believe that aftermarket is the backbone for a sustainable growth in mining and have several ongoing competence development programs benchmarked against global industry standards to ensure that our team is best in class”, Subhasis further adds.
